Title contenders?
Is this the year that we finally bury the 18 year wait for the Premiership to return/come back to Anfeild? Well, if the wins against Chelsea and Man U is any indication, then we're on the right track. Benitez's Liverpool have never won against the two in the Premiership since he was installed as the supremo at Anfeild. Interestingly enough, at least for Reds supporters and observers alike, both big wins were done without Torres on the feild. He missed both games due to injuries. Which begs the question. Is Liverpool more of a one dimensional team if he plays thus blocking any other attacking options? Wil Benitez rest Torres when Liverpool play their return games against the two and also Arsenal? :) I will put it down as mere coincidence. The way Liverpool played against the two, with Torres, they would've buried them sooner than later. The win against the free flowing Chelsea showed the level of maturity that Liverpool's midfeild have become especially in cutting out their attacks. Mascherano and Alonso seem to be at ease in the center and thus allowing Gerrard to have a more open role to play. In Babel, Bennayoun, Kuyt and Pennant, Liverpool have a variety of options. The only problem right now is upfront where Liverpool have only Torres and Keane to depend on. If both are injured, then there is a problem although Kuyt have played the striking role before but it would do Liverpool good if they had someone like Amr Zaky or even Carlton Cole or Darren Bent in the side to come in when needed. 29 more games to play. Hopefully we will see many more wins and comebacks :)
